An inclusive education system is a way of thinking and acting that demonstrates acceptance of, and belonging for, all students - regardless of their backgrounds, needs or abilities. It is founded on the belief that all children can learn and reach their full potential given opportunity, effective teaching and appropriate resources. Inclusive learning is more than just placement of a student - it is about participating, belonging, being engaged in the learning process, and being welcomed and embraced in the classroom.
Learning Assistance Program
The Learning Assistance Class supports students who have average cognitive abilities and have significant delays in classroom achievement. The goal of this program is to improve academic skills and support students in developing strategies that will allow them to manage the goals of returning to the regular program, as they progress to grade level expectations. This program has a primary focus on literacy and numeracy skills in a smaller classroom setting with an increase in targeted instruction specific to individual needs. Students require a recent psychoeducational assessment including a cognitive assessment and achievement test (preferably the WISC-V and WIAT-III) along with the recommendation from their current school in collaboration with the parents to qualify for this program. This program is available for students in Grades 2 and 3.
